DANCEXCHANGE STUDIOS

AS PART OF FESTIVAL OF AUDACITY

This FREE one-off workshop is themed around grounding, boundaries, creativity, connection and communication which are at the core of Ella Mesma's work.

This studio-based class will combine the styles of *Afro Brazilian and Afro Cuban styles, Hip Hop, yoga and contemporary dance.*

Ella Mesma began her dance career with Afro Latin styles and breakdance before training at The Place. The collective Ella Mesma Company have been commissioned by Sadler’s Wells (‘Wild Card’), Dance City (as Associate Dance Artist 2016-2017), and the National Circus Centre (‘Papyllon’).

“It was such a wonderful experience attending the workshop, as a dancer I felt totally immersed in the movement. It provided me with an opportunity to dance many styles, including my own and to meditate towards healing. Throughout the session, I was guided through movement meditations; learning new dance vocabulary and improvising in my own flow – a wonderful synergy”. Dani Byars, Leeds

This workshop is part of Festival of Audacity in partnership with DanceXchange - This July, Festival of Audacity makes Birmingham the stage for brave and audacious activist art. Driven by the belief that art should be brought to the people, the festival programme doesn’t take place in exclusive venues, but in everyday spaces like National Express buses, New Street Station, and Rotunda Square, Bullring.
