Jazz Lines - Nubya Garcia

London-based saxophonist and composer, Nubya Garcia, is one of the leading forces behind the resurgence of jazz-influenced sounds in the UK. Raised in a creative environment built by a set of Caribbean parents, her brand of afro-tinged jazz has made her a key component in a string of new and established groups: from work with legendary jungle producer and toaster, Congo Natty, through to her own works as part of the Theon Cross Trio, six-piece Maisha, and the Nérija septet.

Last year, Town Hall Symphony Hall brought together a 17-piece orchestra to perform the works of Pharrell Williams.

Reworkestra – now a 16-piece orchestra plus three live vocalists – will return to the landmark venue Town Hall to perform the hits of Stevie Wonder this July. Hear local artists from Birmingham’s thriving music scene celebrate the music of this legendary Motown artist, an American icon and musical genius for one night only.

Live vocals from Reisz Amos,  Patrice Alisha and Francis Mott

Uniting our voices to ignite change

The Empowerment Project will give black people a voice to make a difference by offering a support network covering topics that affect their everyday lives in Britain.

Uniting Our Voices to Ignite Change is our first organised event where we will have the opportunity to introduce the project to our guests. To enable the community to be empowered there will be Open discussions, Group sessions where a presentation will be delivered by the group representative based on everyday life issues.

Callaloo, perhaps best known as a popular Caribbean dish, is also a virtuosic tour de force for piano and orchestra composed by young American composer/pianist, Stewart Goodyear. Full of driving jazz rhythms and colourful orchestration, Callaloo is an immediately appealing work.

Having opened the last Birmingham Classical season, Chineke! make a welcome return as the final orchestra to perform in this season. With Wayne Marshall at their helm, Chineke! bring their joy and energy to Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite and Dvořák’s dramatic Seventh Symphony.
