LONG SYNOPSIS:  In 1941 Ulric Cross, a young and ambitious man from Trinidad, left his island home to seek his fortune. He was a jurist, a diplomat and an elite RAF Pilot during WWII. He is recognized as the most decorated West Indian Pilot of WWII. Cross was called to the Legal Bar in London in 1949 and practised law in Africa (Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania, Dar es Salaam). His life dramatically changes when he joins the Pan-African movement which was sweeping the world in the 1950s and 1960s.



HERO is the extraordinary story of Ulric Cross and his lasting impact on World history. The film spans the dynamic and transformative times in which he lived. HERO is the untold story of those Caribbean men and women who helped to liberate Africa from Colonialism. Ulric Cross lived in England from his RAF training in 1941 until 1957. He served as a navigator with the air force’s elite Pathfinders, who located and marked bombing targets with flares. After the war, he worked as a  producer at the BBC’s Caribbean Service. He was then recruited by fellow Trinidadian George Padmore, one of the architects of Pan-Africanism, to travel to Ghana to help Kwame Nkrumah in his work to unite Africa’s emerging nations. During Cross’s 15 years in Africa, he served on Ghana’s Crown Council, was Attorney General in Cameroon, a High Court Judge in Tanzania and Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Dar Es Salaam. Cross returned to Trinidad where he served as a High Court judge on the Court of Appeal, later becoming Chair of the country’s Law Reform Commission. He was posted to London as Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner to the UK from 1990 to 1993.
